City of Ottawa is looking for multiple casual personal support workers for the planning, coordinated development, management and implementation of long term care home nursing and personal care activities, programs, services and initiatives to the residents of a municipal long term care facility.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of a Personal Support Worker (PSW) certificate program* which meets the standards established in the Fixing Long-Term Care Act.
Clinical Practicum hours within the Personal Support Worker program consist of a minimum of one hundred and forty (140) hours, as practical experience, preferably with clinic experience in a geriatric or long term care setting.
Combined class and practical experience must be 600 hours in duration.
KNOWLEDGE
- Resident hygiene, optimal functioning, well-being, feeding, elimination
- Health Care Aide routines and practices in a long-term care setting
- Infection prevention and control guidelines
- Transfer and positioning techniques of residents
- Rehabilitation and palliative care approaches
- Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
