Inclusive Recreation Camp Counselor – City of Ottawa

Under the guidance of a supervisor, you are responsible for assisting with all functions related to the delivery of summer camp programs to ensure a safe and enjoyable camp experience for special needs children/youth registered at the camp. You provide direct client care and intervention, and program adaptation. The programs may take place indoors, outdoors, or in a variety of locations. Work is performed in accordance with related legislation, policies, procedures, and guidelines.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Note:  minimum age of 16 years is required for this Summer Student job.

Post-secondary Student – completion of first year college or university in Nursing, Developmental Services Worker, Recreation and Leisure, or related field

Note:  Student must be returning to school in the fall

Minimum of 8 months but less than 1 year of related experience is required

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Current Standard First Aid, CPR-C and AED certificates
AODA Accessibility/IASR Training
Crisis Prevention/Intervention training certificate
Alternative Communication Systems (ASL- American Sign Language) training is desirable
Ergonomic Lifts and Transfers training is an asset

  • Must possess the training, experience and knowledge to organize the work and its performance.
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.
